The "Functions" column decodes the UN/LOCODE 8-position function classifier. A location can serve more than one transport function:

• Port — any sea, river or lake port for waterborne transport.
• Rail terminal — a rail freight/cargo terminal.
• Road terminal — a road freight/cargo terminal.
• Airport — a location with an airport.
• Postal exchange — a postal exchange office.
